As Emotive's COO, Newton managing the company's administrative operations, including its IPR, corporate, and content licensing strategies. Newton first joined co-founders Stonefield and Dewing as General Counsel at Moviso. Newton authored the first licensing structures that brought music to mobile phones. Many of Newton's licensing regimes continue to govern revenue models in today's mobile media business.
With InfoSpace's acquisition of Moviso, Newton continued on with the team as Vice President of Entertainment Media at InfoSpace Mobile, serving on the company's senior management team and managing the Entertainment Media group. Newton was responsible for structuring and negotiating entertainment content, new media and technology-related transactions, as well as distribution agreements with carrier, handset manufacturer, retail and online portal partners.
A music attorney by training, Newton previously worked at the firm Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown in Beverly Hills, California where his practice included representing recording artists Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Tina Turner, various music producers, writers, entertainment and new media companies in entertainment-related transactions. He began his career in corporate practice with Los Angeles-based firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
Newton is a graduate of Harvard University, where he received both B.A. and J.D. degrees.
